I’m always watching the National Geographic channel specials and I just can’t understand why black men & women have so many more health problems than white people. Especially when you realize that every single person alive today came out of Africa to start with.
So what is it about my dark skin that makes scientists keep finding more messed up stuff.
Being an overweight black woman, I’ve already got to be careful of diabetes and now according to some scientists’ research, I’m going to have a tougher time losing weight than a white chick because of my damn adenosine receptors.
Here’s the gist of the research:
28 women scheduled for gastric bypass surgery agreed to let doctors take fat samples from them during surgery.
Researchers then studied the extracted fat from the 14 obese white women and 14 obese black women. The scientists were especially interested in the cellular receptors in the fat tissue. The receptors acted as a holding zone for a chemical called adenosine and curb fat breakdown.
And here’s the kicker… The researchers found that the obese black women had more adenosine receptors in their deep abdominal fat than the obese white women.
Women of color just can’t get a break. I’d like to punch those receptors in their fat storing faces!
